On Saturday and Sunday the street course will be brutalized by Tony Trujillo and the man who designed the street course, Geoff Rowley. Bucky Lasek and Omar Hassan will also be ripping the vert.

7.9.09 - Vans Team Snatching Pages In This Month's Thrasher
TNT, Alex Olson, AVE, Keegan Sauder, Andrew Allen, and the Lutheran brothers. Anywhere we go with these guys is bound to be mayhem! This time around, Albuquerque, New Mexico was the destination and thanks to the Lutheran brothers donating spots we had a great trip, as evidence in the mag! Also, in celebration of Chima Ferguson's first Thrasher interview, his Vans teammate Dustin Dollin took the reins. "It was all a dream", with the Notorious B.I.G. inspiring Dustin's interview techniques it makes for a good read and Chima's photos speak louder than Dustin, if that's possible. Can't wait til Chima's visa comes through. We love this August issue!

6.30.09 - Shoot Yourself With Dustin Dollin
There have been multiple sightings of our favorite pile, Dustin Dollin, on the streets on West Coast and the East Coast. He's been all over LA and was spotted on the boardwalk in Venice Beach, on Melrose down the block from Brooklyn Projects, and around the corner from Hollywood High. Up north, Dustin was spotted by the Berkeley Park, down the block from Huf, and, not suprisingly, in the Mission. Then we started getting calls from New York, where Dustin was seen laid out up the block from Supreme, lounging by the TF, and barely able to crawl into The Fish. We just got a call from Amy at KC/DC that Dustin's passed out by the train station in Williamsburg. We're really psyched to have Dustin in the US, but we need some evidence that he was here this summer! Each Monday in July the photo's will go into the Shoot Yourself...with Dollin Gallery. 6.29.09 - CHIMA'S A FRICKIN WINNER
They're aint nothing sloppy about the way Chima Ferguson goes about business, that's for sheezy. The 20-year-old dusted over 30 of his talented mates to win the first ever Billabong City Squared captured by Handycam in Sydney.

Sony and Billabong teamed up to build a sweaty looking stair set with a kink rail, bang in the middle of World Square, inner city Sydney. The invites were dished out to the best of the best and they all showed, throwing down some massive hammers for the 5000 or so humans that passed through the packed shopping precinct.

The final was 20-minutes of goodness starting with an effortlessly nailed varial heel delivered by eventual winner Mr. Ferguson. It only got better from there with Shane Azar putting his hand up with a gap to reverse nose grind, Blake Harris holding his own with a gap to frontside feeble followed by a gap to backside over crooks and Sam Giles weighing in with a kickflip frontside 5-0.

Only problem was, Chima was just warming the wheels with his first trick and cemented his rep as one of the most talented street skaters in Oz by rolling out a monster backside 3 down the set, a nollie 3 shouvit and wrapping a tasty frontside big spin boardslide on the kinked rail to finish up. The win was his, no doubt about it.

When the young Blake Harris tweaked his ankle mid way through the final it was kinda down to Giles to put the challenge to Chima and that he did, stomping the trick of the contest on his last run. After trying it four times straight, the kid from the Gong nailed a giant kickflip front lip and just about bought the square down, people were throwing cans off the roof they were so hyped.

6.26.09 - Go Skateboarding Day 2009 Recap Vans Skateparks
It was here and slipped away from us so fast. Good thing we can all hop on our boards any day of the year & celebrate our own Go Skateboarding Day when we want. Both skateparks in Orange, CA and Orlando, FL threw down on Go Skateboarding Day June 21st. With free skating, product tosses all day, a $200 Vans gift card High Ollie contest, and even a Van Doren BBQ at The Block...everyone had a great day. Winner's of the high ollie contest were Josh Knight in Orlando with a 30 inch ollie, and Dominique Sanders at The Block with a 33 inch ollie. Check the pictures below.

6.25.09 - Vans Skateparks Bucky Camp Recap
Over the last two weeks both Vans Skateparks in Orange, CA and Orlando, FL offered a special two-day skatecamp with Bucky Lasek and some of his friends. At The Block Bucky, Lincoln Ueda, Neal Hendrix, Darin "Cookiehead" Jenkins, Josh Borden and Sean Mazza taught kids the ins and outs of the combi bowl. Over in Orlando, Bucky picked up Florida local Mike Frazier to help out with instruction. The skaters that got lucky enough to get their spot in camp had a great time and walked home with a bunch of free gear from Vans, Pro-Tec, Billabong, Element and some useful tips from the pros. Watch out for next year's camp registration announcement because spots fill up fast.

It took five years, but Bucky Lasek finally got his Pro-tec Pool Party title. Before a packed house Saturday night at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, CA, Bucky Lasek claimed his first title and $25,000 with former winners Omar Hassan (2006) and Rune Glifberg (2005, 2007, 2008) placing second and third in a Pro Division final that featured charges by youngsters including 14-year old Brazillian Pedro Barros, 20 year-old Josh Borden and 17 year-old Josh Rodriguez.

This was like a Flavor of Love Reunion Show! Rowley, Trujillo, Dollin, Van Engelen and Layton at the same place at the same time? It's like seeing Sasquatch, he's gone before you can be sure it was him. Feel free to cross refrence Flavor of Love and sasquatch, I'm sure she was on season one. So we gathered our crew and headed out to Arizon for a demo at Industrial. Before the demo we had lunch and cooled down by the pool. After the demo AVE entertained us with an epic demonstration of power kicking and the way to close a trash can when you're afraid of swine flu. Then we had some dinner and drinks (or drinkies, as Dustin affectionately calls' em). All in all a stellar weekend with the best crew.

Get out there and skate this summer! Both Vans Skateparks have summer skatecamp registration currently open. Summer skatecamps run select weeks at each park Monday - Friday from 8am - 12pm. Instruction by Vans certified instructors is offered for beginner to advanced street skateboarders ages 6 - 16. Cost is just $170 for members and $195 for non-members. Both Vans Skateparks will be holding special skate camps featuring Bucky Lasek in June. At The Block in CA, Bucky and other pros will be on hand to teach the fundamentals of transition and park riding. Over at Vans Skatepark in Orlando, FL, Bucky will be stepping it up a notch and teaching advanced vert riding with other pros. This camp is geared to intermediate to advanced skaters, and spots are very limited so sign up today at your local park.

- Orlando will be holding their camp on June 22nd and 23rd

3.19.09 - Portland and Denver Vans Skate Legends Weekend
Tony Alva, Christian Hosoi and Steve Caballero hit up a couple of new Vans stores this past weekend for some autograph signings. First stop was the new Vans store at Lloyd Center in downtown Portland on Friday night. Alva and Hosoi signed for around 300 fans and lasted until the mall closed. The next day, on a wet frigid morning, Hosoi disappeared to San Diego to take first place at a Grind For Life lay-back contest while Alva had an interview with a local Portland radio station. T.A. picked out his top five punk songs and talked about all things music for their weekend Punk Show. From Portland, San Diego and San Jose, the guys jetted to Denver for a Sunday afternoon autograph signing at the new Vans store at Southwest Plaza in Littleton, CO. Steve Caballero joined Alva and Hosoi for this one, and good thing he did because around 500 fans showed up to meet them. Three hours and 30 sharpies later, the guys shot to the Denver airport to head home in all different directions. A quick weekend and a ton of signatures didn't even faze these guys... they don't call them "Legends" for nothing. Thanks to all that came out.

2.23.09 - Bucky And Cab Win Bondi Bowl-A-Rama!
Vans Skate Team riders Bucky Lasek and Steve Caballero defended their title in the Pro division and Masters division last Saturday at the Bondi Bowl-A-Rama in Australia. Bucky came off a knee injury from the week before but managed to pull it together with flawless run in qualifying and finals with a McEgg at the buzzer like Michael Jordan at crunch time. Omar was on fire as well with long runs using the entire bowl and deck and placed second, respectively. The weather was intermittant rain with guys drying up the bowl as soon as the rain hit. Congrats to all the guys for a great showing! Be on the look out for a full video recap on the way!

10.16.08 - Dew Action Sports Tour Warms Up In Orlando
So we're finally here at the completion of the fifth stop Dew Action Sports Tour. This year's tour is lead by Vans very own Bucky Lasek, who has won the Dew cup twice- once in 2005 and again in 2006. The final competition on Saturday won't be easy: "Bob Burnquist has pulled out big surprises at every stop of the tour; Andy MacDonald just won his first-ever Dew Tour stop last month and is on a roll; Pierre-Luc Gagnon had a huge year at X Games and the Maloof Money Cup and is hungry for a Dew Tour win; 19 year-old Adam Taylor is in 5th place overall and wants to make the podium as a birthday present to himself, and Sandro Dias is determined to stick a 900 into a run that would surely put him on top of any podium if he can pull it off (www.ast.com)." 17 points separate the top four guys in the contest, meaning it can be anyone one of them who will hold the $75,000 check at the end of the night. The best holiday of the year is fast approaching, so here's some party info. Alva Skates is throwing an 80's rager on November 1st, so it's in your best interest to attend!

10.13.08 - Blind Takes Vans Downtown Showdown Team Title!
The 4th Vans Downtown Showdown was held on the Paramount Studios back lot Saturday with the world's top street skaters attacking custom-built obstacles set against a New York City backdrop. The Blind board crew claimed team honors and $30,000 while Zero's Jamie Tancowny won $5,000 as top am and Blind's Jani Laitiala was named top pro and placed in three of four obstacles, pocketing $14,000 total.

The Vans Downtown Showdown featured many skaters who rarely take part in contests from Foundation, Toy Machine, Girl, Zero, Element, Habitat, Creature, Black Label and Blind.

Each skateboard team submitted designs for a custom obstacle with the top four chosen and built to that team's specifications. Skateboard teams then chose three riders, consisting of at least one pro and one am, to jam on each of the four features.

9.11.08 - Pedro Barros Won The Biggest Contest In Brazil
Vans Skate Team rider Pedro Barros just won the biggest vert contest in Brazil! It was a big festival, including a Biggest Air Contest, Bob Burniquist skating the loop, Bad Religion playing, and about 20,000 people crowd! Pedro won the AM contest and took home a Honda motorbike. Also taking 3rd place at the biggest air contest, Pedro scored tons of cash for the huge 11ft method air! Congrats!

This year's event took place at the Block of Orange at the Van's Skate Park over the course of one day. Vans Skatepark The Block in Orange, CA will be hosting a third annual Vans Pro Camp Featuring Bucky Lasek and other pros on August 7 - 8. The camp is geared toward intermediate to advanced vert skateboarders ages 6 - 16 looking to get advice from the pros. The two days run from 8am - 1pm with lunch included. The Vans Skate and Surf team riders including Tony Alva, Johnny Layton, Keegan Sauder, Ray Barbee, Joel Tudor and Karina Petroni were in Virginia Beach, VA this past weekend to do a demo and signing at Coastal Edge. Alva and the boys sessioned the mini and took time out to do a signing and shoot photo's with there fans. Karina and Joel had to catch their flights home and Ray Barbee and Chuck Treece took the stage to kick out the jams! This was all followed up by a Vans Girls fashion show. It was an amazing day as the sun started to set as we headed back to the hotel sunburnt and weary. Everyone was stoked!

07.11.08 - Vans European Skate Tour Podcasts
The Vans "Roll With Us" European Skate Tour has rolled to an end. Vans European skate team riders: Hugo Liard, Tomas Vintr, Chris Pfanner, Danny Wainwright and Ignacio Morata and crew collaborated for three weeks of unbelievable skating that hit 10 countries. The gang wrapped the tour up with a party to end all parties in Barcelona on the weekend of June 23rd. After almost 10 great years at The Block at Orange, the Vans Skatepark is getting a much-needed facelift to nearly every inch of skateable park terrain. Exciting additions to the new street course include a massive 80-foot mini ramp, as well as a large viewing area for the public, both of which will be constructed out of the current Vert ramp structure. This new layout will open up an additional 3,000 square feet for the street course area and create opportunities for Vans to host special events and varied skate contests and will be completed in time for the 4th annual Pro-tec Pool Party which will be held May 17th at the park's famed replica Combi Bowl. The reconstruction will be rolled out in phases throughout the next month with various sections slated to remain open to the public. Vans encourages those interested in skating to call the park ahead of time for updated information on course section closures.

Congratulations to Omar Hassan and Josh Borden for their stellar performance at Wellington New Zealand's first World Cup Bowl a Rama skate event. After a rain delay on Saturday the boys came out and owned the Wellington Bowl on Sunday. Omar finished third while young Josh Borden came in a respectable 6th place.

Van Wastell, Dylan Rieder, Andrew Allen, Jon Goemann, Scott Kane and Keegan Sauder flew to Barcelona, Spain where they met up with Chris Pfanner. After settling into the apartments just next to MACBA (Meetup spot and location of the infamous "Big 4"), daily sessions ensued. The weather was unseaonably cool upon arrival but has warmed up everyday with 100% humidity. The crew is hard at work on an upcoming TWS article with resident photographer Oliver Barton. 07.20.07 - Pro-tec Pool Party Airs Monday Night On Fuel
The 2007 Pro-tec Pool party airs Monday night, July 23rd at 6:30pm pst/ 9:30pm est. For the third year in a row, Pro-Tec and Vans threw a skateboard pool contest that attracted some of the biggest skaters in the world to the Vans Skate Park in Orange, California. Veteran bowl skaters went head-to-head with modern vert superstars like Bucky Lasek, PLG, and Rune Glifberg. In a dramatic pro final, Glifberg just edged out Lasek and bowl vet Omar Hassan for the victory and $25,000 dollar first place prize.
