Case of the Mondays: Dan Lu's Hazy Amsterdam Memories
Welcome back to another installment of our regular feature Case of the Mondays. This week we catch up with Toy Machine Am, Daniel Lutheran, after returning back from his Downtown Showdown Amsterdam Adventure to see what his favorite things were on his first trip to Europe.

FIVE HAZY HIGHLIGHTS OF AMSTERDAM

1-This was my first trip to Europe and it was epic. I feel like they were way more fit over there. The people were out and active. Every woman, man and child was cruising a bike around. Everyone was going to the lake or the canals. They’re out, they’re talking; it just seemed more lively. I was psyched on that.

2-Amsetrdam is just awesome. We would just stroll off to the red light district because we had a couple days off in between the contest so I wanted to see all of that. We’d go to the coffee shops. The red light was one of my favorite parts. It’s not as negative-nasty as people would assume. Obviously there’s the sex and the weed and the booze but it seemed like it was commonplace and just a part of life over there. It was really interesting and cool. It’s a far out scene that you can’t imagine.

3-They have really strong coffee. The coffee over there is great. We’re drinking Starbucks, getting fat over here; it’s so insane. Over there they’re enjoying potent, pure, little shots of espresso with way less whip cream or anything. Just way less volume they intake in general. I’d wake up every morning and just marinate right outside on the patio with the freshest coffees. And it’s clean, it doesn’t cut right through you. Here they add caramel, vanilla, whip cream, sugar and all this stuff; there’s it’s just the coffee or espresso. It felt way better, body and mind. It gets you spracked.

4-The actual coffee shops are great for a kid who is into the stuff that I’m into could ever see. You go in, you buy, you get some weed, you can get a meal or pastry or a coffee. It’s like a study hall sort of…but with weed. It’s a stress-free environment. Nobody is bothering you. You can have a smoke, a coffee and just kick it. The idea of just doing it in public is wild. Literally, there were guys on the corners smoking bongs, with cops driving by and him smiling and not caring. How lax it was was new to me. It’s not like there’s mayhem in these coffee shops, it’s actually the opposite; everyone is nice and peacefully stoned, reading or conversing.

5-I rented a Vespa and I just cruised the city on my own and I think that’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever done. You see so much of the land and the city, all the little alleyways. It’s common there not to have a car. So the Vespa travel through the canals and the city was amazing.

6-To top it all off I think those are the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. I like girls a lot so I always just stare at them and for what I like, tall, beautiful, weird noses, weird Dr. Suess girls…they were the best. That region just has the most beautiful girls. And beautiful people! Beautiful people who are really nice. They were all curious why we were there. It’s something you don’t see in America like someone coming up to you and asking, “How’s your day going?” That was definitely a great vibe there; good-hearted, beautiful people.
