Posted Dec. 30, 2012, 6 a.m. /
As we enter a new year and take a step closer towards the Vans video now in progress we must bid a fond farewell to 2012 and all the good times we had. From Gilby going pro to Elijah getting Year's Best Am to the release of the Stage 4 to celebrating 20 years of the Half Cab and teaming up with Metallica for the anniversary to all the covers and coverage and contests; the guys have been kicking ass all year long. We put together a highlight blog of just some of the few major accomplishments from 2012. Enjoy and happy new year to everyone.
After five years without a skatepark we're proud to announce the groundbreaking of the new Huntington Beach Park on December 13th, 2012
Gilbert Crockett put out a "joke part" filmed completely with cellphones that is better than most everything else that came out in 2012:
Jay Howell's new animated show on Offthewall.tv gives life to the absurd stories our guys experience. Daniel Lutheran, Christian Hosoi and Tony Alva all deliver epic tales:
Our own Steve Caballero stars in the Bones Brigade documentary making it a no brainer for Vans to sponsor the film and release a limited edition pack:
Transworld Skateboarding compiled their 30 Most Influential Skaters of All Time list and Vans had a half dozen guys on the list:
Hosoi #4
Alva #8
Cardiel #11
Caballero #14
Rowley #26
Dill #28
The long running contest series made its NYC debut and was a smash hit. Pedro Barros won the Pro Division with Lance Mountain taking Masters with Steve Caballero coming in second:
2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the Half Cab, most iconic skate shoe in history, and we did it up with parties all over the globe.
In September we got the guys out on the road to Des Moines, KC, St. Louis, Indy and Ohio to shake hands, kiss babies and shred the heartland.
In September we had the distinct honor to welcome Jason Dill back to the Vans family.
This year the DIY Spitfire spot contest included 5 shops from 5 countries with Flat Spot from Canada winning it all:
We created two exclusive Vans to benefit two key Canadian DIY spots, Leeside & Projet 45.
When the smoke settled Geoff Rowley's Flip Skateboards won our Downtown Showdown held in Amsterdam:
Vans teamed up with Metallica for a limited edition all black Half Cab and celebrated in Atlantic CIty at the Metallica Orion Fest:
So there it is, 2012 in a nutshell. Out with the old and in with the new. With Geoff Rowley week about to start January 14th and a new Chima Ferguson shoe due for June and a bunch of filming trips scheduled, 2013 looks to be even more productive than last year!
