Daniel Lutheran Week Continues with Dial Up Memories
Posted Feb. 8, 2012, 7 a.m. /
For as long as the world has been hearing about Daniel Lutheran they've been hearing stories about all the photos he carries around in his cellphone. He literally has thousands upon thousands of shots that he takes around with him at all times. We asked him to share a few of his favorites with us. We were going to call this The Lutheran Eleven but he just kept finding images that he was stoked on. Here are some of his favorites that he always finds himself zoning out on:
This is my brother Andrew, Drew Lu, smithing this rail which should be used in a real magazine. We were here and we both skated it bro style and he gets his trick in 3 tries and I took like 2 hours. Favorite person to skate with. Favorite dude ever; and he’s gnarly. My friend Johnny Gomez shot this so props to Johnny. This is a legendary spot back home; its called Bullhead Rail.
I like to do a lot of art. Colin Provost helped me do the board, we collabo’d on some art. I think this up in San Pedro and I had to piss. So corner piss plus art = board. Oh, and Albuquerque on the board; it’s where I'm from.
It’s a guy and he’s sleeping because I love to sleep, or whatever. And then some southwest socks. I think that’s in Sedona; not that you could ever tell.
This is in North Carolina, on a Toy Machine tour. We all love to bowl after we nail it, if we get some footage. We’re celebrating. They had a projector screen and I projected my name up onto the top zone. I just cut out letters where the score is. It’s old fashioned. I just ripped apart paper and put it up. It’s Colin Provost bowling and I'm going to claim he got a strike. I'm claiming it. I know he nailed mad strikes that night.
This is Phoenix, Arizona on a Vans trip. This chick was rad. I just realized she was better than me, so I asked her if I could get a photo of her. I guess it’s a rocket on the board and it’s a rocket flip. Then she rolled by and flipped off the camera for me later.
My dad, Chuck. One of my favorite people in the world. I’ve learned everything from him. He’s seriously the greatest dude, so it’s just bro-style. This is a sunset in Albuquerque in our back yard. Hardest working man in the world; greatest heart, and coolest dad.
My favorite woman in the world forever. The sweetest, strongest woman with the kindest heart. Ma Dukes, Shar Bear, the Best. We’re on a Vans trip through Albuquerque. She met us at Whole Foods. You got Greg Hunt back there, probably trying to find a rail or something. It’s just a warm embrace with my only girl.
Chima and my dad; the greatest souls. Chima is such a unique, shining soul. He’s one of my favorite people. We’re eating more green chili, which you can only get in New Mexico. A breakfast with legends.
This is actually a screen shot of a video. Provost is the main homie; he’s such a legend. He went pro earlier this day. We all used to live at this old place called The Dungeon. This is gotta be like 4 am. He’s like, “I don’t need it anymore,” about his hair, out of his mind. I woke up for this because I had already passed out. Colin who could never part with his hair finally just accepted it and he’s getting buzzed up by Marquis.
Harmony is one of my greatest friends out in California; he showed me so much. You could tell he just shines bright. He’s a positive dude. He’s just someone I'm really proud to have as a friend and have his influence in my life. This photo is just us both nice-boying it. Everyone’s family on Toy Machine. They’ve turned into my brothers. They’re like my family, so this is another brother.
Drew-fucking-Lu; he’s the best! He’s my main wingman. We’ve been through everything together. He’s a king in my book; a legend. This is us bro-styling at our old apartment.
This is one of those days when your baby girl, skating, wasn’t so sweet to you. My homie Mouse does griptape art. It’s just a long day, you’re out fishing and you didn’t catch any fish so your rod is snapped. It’s the ups and downs of skating. This day was gnarly. That is stress release.
Sweetest, funnest girl in the world. Arianna. She’s one of my best friends and she’s the greatest. We are having breakfast, like, just getting green chili burritos. This is food you can’t get everywhere. Sweetest girl, sweetest food.
This is my mom’s famous green chili stew. Since we were kids every Monday night she’d make this, the greatest meal. It’s my favorite meal. I was raised on it and she has her own recipe. She came to Long Beach and made it for us.
Leo taught me bro-style. This is him teaching me how to be bro-style. Bro-style, I can’t perfectly define it, but just love for your bros. Not bros before hoes, like, way beyond that. True brotherhood. We’re lounging at a skate session and he’s probably just shedding knowledge on me 'cause he’s a legend. He’s the best dude and he’s seriously my favorite.
This is one of the wildest experiences I’ve come across recently. A girl Nieratko introduced me to for Adventures With Chris, just representing. Just a beautiful, sweet girl. Her name is Kleio. She’s was comfortable with herself and she was down for Toy Machine and Vans and skating.
Matt B., the original legend. He’s beyond it. He’s on a different wavelength. The most epic dude and one of my favorite skaters if not my favorite. We’re laughing because those sunglasses aren’t serious. It was just funny. Just a true soul, a true G.
Johnny in rare form. This is on the Brainwash trip through the southwest we’re in El Paso. He just committed some foolery. I think we went to a strip club just before this; we just got back to the hotel and we’re all going for it. He did something and next thing you know he Big Boys his shirt off. You could just tell it was a wild night. Johnny’s helped me so much. I'm saying everyone’s my favorite 'cause they truly are but Johnny’s another, he’s a legend. Huge heart. And the best dude and I love this photo of him.
This is my nanny, Sarah. She takes care of me more than she knows and she's a total babe. She’s twice as smart and twice as sweet as you. She’s a positive influence and we dork out together..."...but I don’t have any makeup on!!"
I saw this at a restaurant that I really like to eat at and I just thought it was cool. It’s sewn. It’s cheesy or whatever, but its honestly a nice set of rules to live by. It’s at the Starling Diner in Long Beach on 3rd street. If you hit it just come on over because I live down the street.
This is my parents' backyard. To the right is an Indian reservation. This is my best friend back home; his name's Lane. We always just kick back and play guitar or have a smoke or a beer and it’s just serenity now. Good people, good area.
This is our backyard in Albuquerque. This happens nightly during summer. There’s Dill, my oldest brother Chris, my other brother Ryan’s somewhere around, Chima, Griffin, Donovan, Sam Muller. A little piece of New Mexico.
