Andrew Allen Week Day 3: Andrew's Anti Hero & Spitfire Ads
Welcome back to the third day of Andrew Allen's Rider Week at Vans. In case you missed the first days, yesterday was an Exclusive Interview with Andrew and the first day we collected all four of Andrew 's major interviews from the past couple years. Today we take you back in time once again with all of Andrew's Anti Hero Skateboards and Spitfire Wheels ads with some added commentary by Mr. Allen.

That spot is in East LA and I’ve gone there a bunch before and looked at it and there were always cars in the way. One day we were driving by and there were no cars parked where the landing was and I got up there. I was kind of scared, I bailed it for a while because I didn’t know what was going to happen when I rolled off the ledge. Finally I got myself to stick one, landed, rolled off and ate shit. Then I tried it again and was able to roll away.
I think this was the pro ad. I’m trying to remember what that photo of me passed out is from. It’s definitely not a mock up, it’s probably real. You never really see the ads until they’re in the magazine, it’s always just a surprise. I never know what direction Julien [Stranger] and [Mike] Novak are going to take with it but they always make it pretty entertaining.

This pool is in Tel Aviv, Isreal and there’s a really cool skatepark there that I think Grindline Built. The deep end of that bowl was super-mellow, that’s the only reason that I was even able to grind it. I like to skate everything but I guess I’m more street oriented so I was psyched to get a pool photo. Skating Tel Aviv was probably one of the coolest places I’ve been fortunate enough to go to in my life: nice people, good food, not sketchy at the time, some of the best skating, marble plazas, granite ledges, banks and cool stuff to skate. It’s a place I never thought I’d go to in my life.
I don’t know what was going on with the boogie boarding. I think that was Trujillo going down some stairs on a boogie board. I don’t know what it is but it’s funny.
As for me and Frank, he’s like the older brother I never had. Maybe the one I never wanted. No, we’re cool. Me and Frank see eye to eye. He’s one of the funniest people I know so he’s entertaining to be around at all times. I love that dude.

On day we were down there in San Diego, hanging out at the Dog Beach down there in Ocean Beach. We were drinking beer and playing the high-low game where you go squat behind somebody and the other person pushes them over and you get high-low’d into the sand. So we were doing that to random people walking by, total strangers, high-lowing everybody. What happened was I had to go to the bathroom so I dug a hole and I laid down and was peeing and that’s what that photo is.

That was on the first Beauty and The Beast trip we went on. We had just gotten done doing these time trials at this skatepark in Oregon. Julien came up with the idea and put numbers on everyone’s back and you got to do one lap around this tight park and once you go to the certain point everyone was timing you to see who could go around it the fastest. Trujillo won. He was cooking. There were 25 people in it; I don’t think I was very high up on the speed list that day.
After we got done with that we were driving down the street and seen that little bump over that curb and we stopped, everyone got out and skated it. It was cool to get to skate with all the Girl guys. It was awesome for me to get to hang out and skate and camp and kick it with the guys I grew up admiring. Now I’m homies with those dudes.

That’s at the Frost School in The Valley. I had that trick in mind going there and they ended up using it as an ad. I don’t know what to say about that one except you can put Frank’s nose on anything and it’s going to make anything golden.

That’s in Denver, Colorado. It’s some ditch hip thing that everybody’s had a lot of coverage on. It was my second Anti Hero ad. I went out on a trip to Denver with the Real team to try and get on a more streetier mission. Gabe Morford shot that photo.
There’s the Shore Break Baby doll in there. To be quite honest, I have no clue where that baby came from. I think at some point Julien had that thing and I think him and Rick Charnoski came up with the whole Shore Break Baby idea for Off The Wall.tv. They wanted to tie Anti Hero into Vans because a few of the guys on Anti Hero skate for Vans as well, so Charno came through. I had my episode which was the actual Shore Break Baby thing; I thought that was pretty funny, just a short documentation of some stuff I’m into. I do other stuff besides skating to try and keep my mind fresh. I wouldn’t say I’m good at them but I enjoy doing other stuff.

This was my first Anti Hero ad and the photo came from a New Zealand Vans/Thrasher trip in 2005. We went from Auckland all the way down to Wellington. I don’t remember where that pool was. At the time I was just flow for Anti Hero. When we came back I guess that photo was just laying around and they ended up using it for the introduction ad. It says Andy Hero on it; that’s pretty cool. I was definitely stoked on it. It was the beginning of the end.

This is in San Francisco and Morford shot that photo. I guess the art show stuff was taken from some online catalog that was going on. It’s pretty funny. I think Peabody is farting and Julien has that blazer on and Tony Miorana is covered in paint. That’s how Julien normally dresses if you knew him. Cordoroy blazer or a leather jacket with rhinestones, so I guess he went with the blazer this time.

It’s just a front shove it down a double set. It’s kind of by my house, in San Clemente, where Sheckler lives. I don’t know…it’s just a jump down a double set; it’s kind of boring.
What’s it say? The skatepark is closed due to herpes or something like that? I don’t know if that was real or photoshopped but I know the other pictures are from some Thrasher Skate Rock trip in Australia a couple years ago.

That’s in SF or somewhere around San Francisco. It’s kind of cool because it’s an escalator ledge and then you land into that pocket thing and roll away. There’s not really anything to talk about that one.
I think this was my first Spitfire ad and that trick is in the Thrasher video.

That spot is somewhere around LA. I went there before trying to do that trick and we got kicked out and almost got a ticket from the cops. You land in the middle of the street and if the cops see you they get kind of annoyed. I was bummed because I barely ever land tricks and I almost had it but we got the boot. I wanted to do it so we went back and I was able to roll away from it and get in and get out without having any trouble. I was stoked on that and stoked to get another Spitfire ad.
