Pedro Barros Wins Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ NYC/ Photo Recap

The first ever Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ in NYC is a wrap and it's no surprise who won it all. Seems like our own Pedro Barros hasn't lost a bowl contest all year and he wasn't about to start now. Pedro skated faster and bigger than anyone in the contest with blistering speed lines full of huge airs and mean lips tricks. One of the highlights of his runs was him losing his hat on a 540 then whipping around the bowl to a monster frontside air which he landed in a perfect crouch to be able to scoop up his hat put it back on and keep blasting around. Epic.
Second place went to Alex Sorgente, a rather new guy on the scene, but at 14 had one hell of a bag of tricks and really gave Pedro a run for his money. Third place Ben Hatchell out of Virginia, skating padless, put together some really fun runs with a good mix of tricks including some picture perfect nosegrinds.
The Masters Division was dominated by the usual suspects with Steve Caballero coming in second and Christian Hosoi in fourth. Lance Mountain seemed to surprise himself with the win. He kept saying he was in shock and thought Chris Miller should have won, trying to defer the fact that his run completely earned the victory. Pure humility. The feel good story of the contest was Eddie Elguera taking 3rd place after only one year back on the contest scene. His acceptance speech got the crowd even more choked up than Eddie was.
Rain threatened to kill the event all week but Mother Nature was kind enough to hold it off for all the heats and allow the awards to be handed out before pissing down.
