BIO...
When the skate world first laid eyes on the Australian child-terror named Dustin Dollin, he was quickly dubbed the Hell Spawn. More than a decade of professional skating later, Dollin has maintained his fire and progressed into The Man from Hell! With six knee surgeries (more than anyone other active professional skateboarder), he is lucky to be walking (but don't tell him that). Yet after each medical procedure Dustin has returned with a fury, skating even harder than before. As part of Baker skateboards, one of the most influential skate crews in history, Dustin became known around the globe as a small beast capable of shutting spots down. Recently he has taken to wreaking havoc on the Internet, courtesy of homemade, random footage edits called 7 Day Weekend. As with his Baker Bootleg, Baker 2G, Baker 3 and Volcom video projects, his throw away footage is gnarlier than most other skaters' best work. This should come as no surprise given the way that Dustin skates. The freakish bit however is that he is even gnarlier off of his skateboard, with no signs of slowing down...ever.
DUSTIN DOLLIN INTERVIEW...
What shoes do you skate?
Either the NO SKOOL 2, the NO SKOOL TRE or DD SPAWNS.
What’s your set up?
I can't find it.
What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?
The last Deathwish/Baker tour because it was the most dangerous, the scariest and the most rock 'n roll. Danger, danger! Be f@%king careful! Fights, two arrests, around 30 in-room tattoos, windows getting kicked out, receptionists getting banged. Party on!
What is the best story you’ve ever heard or been told?
Lizard King called me the other day and told me that twins came over to his house and he had a threesome with both of them. But I have so many stories that I have been told or been involved with that this web sight doesn't have enough memory capacity not to explode. I think I’m gonna rent a court typist to come 'round at two in the morning because it's easier to remember the stories when I'm outta it.
Favorite Vans rider?
John Cardiel because he has and will always be an inspiration and the toughest skater on earth. Also, Van Wastell, R.I.P. Hey Van, remember when we were riding around Shanghai in the rain and I rode the motorcycle into the lake by accident? Head to toe fun. Man, I miss ya, buddy. Tours won't ever be the same.
What trick can’t you do that you wish you could?
Every trick in the book. I don’t actually skate, it is just special effects. Everyone knows I can edit my own special effects.
What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you?
That question makes me sick. I don't think anyone is interested in my misery. Having the best life often comes with it's downsides. Most skaters are psychopaths. We have to be. Look at what we do to ourselves. Fun life = consequences. Enjoy, kiddies, you have a rough one ahead of you. But just remember, you never know if the person next to you has had a tougher life then you. Keep your head up and try not to complain.
Best trend in skateboarding right now?
Shake Junt
What are some interests/hobbies outside of skating?
Drinking, f@%king, listening to people and their problems. Learning about every person I can. Studying body language.
Last good book you read?
Please Kill Me by Legs McNeil. It made me realize that there are way bigger c*nts out there than me, thereby cutting down my anxiety about being the devil’s spawn.
I know you’re a big Bukowski fan. What’s your favorite Buk book? What do you enjoy about him so much?
I am a huge Bukowski fan. But, I have never read the books. I have watched all the docs though. And devoted a lot of my time to being a bar fly.
Did you know Jeff Grosso was a big Buk fan too?
No, I didn't, but Jeff Grosso is f@%king cool. He always offers a smile and a handshake even though he knows I'm a wreck and I don't think he is any more.
What’s your favorite Buk quote?
Not Buk, but Rourke: “Fuel.”
Five songs that have to be on a mix tape
Colonel Bagshot (Six Day War)
Nick Cave (Dig Lazarus Dig)
Boys Next Door (Shivers)
Gang Of Four (At Home He Feels Like A Tourist)
Leonard Cohen (Bird On the Wire)
T.I. (You Can Have Whatever You Like)
When you do you hair, do you have a photo of The Cure’s Robert Smith taped to the corner of your mirror?
I wish my hair looked as good as his.
You just started a distribution company in Australia. Tell us about that.
PD Distribution distributes Baker, Death, Consolidated, Deathwish. Selling hard goods is hard work though. One of my best friends basically runs it. I just make the tough decisions. We try to make sure some other rich scumbag is not making our brands look bad after putting so much commitment into Baker in my life. Also having all of my good friends on Deathwish seems like a good idea. Global takeover. Join the cult.
Do you wear a suit to work ever?
I have my apartment there. So, usually I am in my boxers. With a cigar and a playboy robe.
If you were tall, for just one day, what would you do?
Fronside flip over [Andrew] Reynolds
When you drive, can you see over the steering wheel?
I don't drink and drive. I have three cars that I never drive . I let my girlfriend drive me round in one of her cars though. She usually gives me a ladder to get in.
