Costa Mesa, California’s resident Black Label Skateboards Pro, Omar Hassan, has been on Vans longer than anyone else named Omar. Hell, almost longer than anyone not named Omar too! He’s been rocking the side stripe for 25 years now and in those two and half decades he’s managed to see every inch of the globe and shred every type of terrain put in front of him. Omar is the blueprint prototype all terrain skater that we are starting to see more of emerging these days. He’s not a bowl skater or a vert skater or a street skater; he’s simply a skateboarder and one of the best ever.

What’s been the best trip you’ve ever been on?
There’s been too many trips! I can’t say just one. It’s all been a good experience.
What is the best story you’ve ever been told?
The tooth fairy leaving me money under my pillow, because when I got older he disappeared.
Favorite Vans rider?
John Cardiel, for sure. He’s got a lot of soul and heart and he’s an awesome skateboarder.
What trick can’t you do that you wish you could?
There’s too many to name.
Worst trend in skateboarding right now?
Tight ass pants.
What are some interests outside of skating?
Hanging out with the homies. BBQing and going to the beach.
Last good book you read?
Thrasher Magazine because my friends were in there acting stupid.
5 songs that have to be on a mix tape?
Music is a mood; I like it all.
Who is your favorite Simpsons character?
Marge. She has the worst voice I’ve ever heard.
What happened at the Vans showdown when you almost got your head cut off?
I should have ducked.
How’d that heal up?

Did you ever consider getting a tattoo around the scar to make it look like a zipper?

Are you now or have you ever ridden on a flying carpet?
Of course; but mine has a V-8!
When you attack someone do you scream, “Hassan chop!”?
Yeah, and I always carry a giant sword.

No, but it was great while it lasted.

Yeah.
Favorite concrete park?
All of the Northwest parks pretty much.
Do you see all the new park creating more well-rounded skaters?
Yeah, these kids are really lucky to grow up with all this new, different terrain.
And you just had the knob on the back of your neck removed?
Yeah, the money bump is gone. It was a cist that I had on my neck and they had to cut it out, scrape it out and dig it out. It’s ok. At least it’s gone. It wasn’t cancerous, luckily, but it was growing. It was the size of a golf ball. But it still looked better than Chet Childress’ teeth.
